Summary of: “Big Data & Security: Real World Use Cases" held on Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 8:00-10:00 AM.

Big Data and Cybersecurity are two of the hottest buzzwords in every enterprise.  Leaders are demanding data-driven decisions and investing Billions to get there.  However, few organizations are able to deliver Big Data solutions with adequate levels of Security.  Ultimately, securing Big Data must occur or an enterprise will ultimately have to make a choice: Be risk averse and accept a significant business opportunity cost or carry an unacceptable level of Cybersecurity risk.

Matthew Carroll, CEO of Immtua, lead the discussion. Matthew is the CEO for Immuta, a data company enabling data scientists to rapidly build highly secure and scalable algorithms.  He has spent the better part of the past 10 years within the US Intelligence Community designing and developing secure, distributed systems for worldwide operations.

This conversation was focused on real-world use cases of successful strategies to secure Big Data environments. This talk didn't focus on encryption models or defensive security strategies, aspects that are widely covered in mainstream technology media. Data was at the forefront of the conversation and we focused on how engineering teams can implement security into large volume and/or high-velocity systems without necessarily depending on a single technology - the key to success in Cybersecurity.
